Microsoft Copilot Cowork

Help experienced users delegate with control.

Introduce multi-step AI work through a bounded super-user programme.

Who should be involved: Experienced Copilot users, operations leads and AI platform owners

What changes when users delegate work to Copilot Cowork?

Delegating work to Copilot Cowork changes the user’s task from composing a prompt to supervising a piece of work. The user needs to state permitted sources and actions, recognise exceptions and judge completion. Amplified Pi develops those habits with experienced users in an agreed scope. The commercial question is whether useful completion improves after review effort, corrections and consumption are included.

When this is a good fit
Experienced users have repeatable tasks with inspectable inputs and results, and a platform owner can validate the available controls in the actual tenant.
Before you invest
Confirm product availability, access and consumption controls. Keep consequential or unattended actions outside the first scope until their authority, approval and interruption arrangements are separately agreed.

Delegation includes the ability to review and intervene.

01

Bound the task

Define the goal, information and permitted actions.

02

Review the approach

Assess the plan, access and potential consequences.

03

Supervise execution

Give meaningful approvals where needed; intervene on deviations.

04

Accept the result

Review the output and actions performed.

When uncertain: clarify, stop or escalate.

The pilot starts with bounded, preferably reversible tasks. Available features and control options are checked beforehand.

What we work on

  • Confirm tenant eligibility and select reversible, bounded tasks with clear completion criteria.
  • Teach users to scope a task, review plans and permissions, inspect outputs and handle uncertain or inappropriate actions.
  • Pilot with explicit approval boundaries, exception logs and a route to stop, recover or escalate work.

What you take away

  • A super-user task portfolio with allowed and excluded actions.
  • A hands-on learning lab and reviewed task records.
  • A pilot decision with support responsibilities and feature-specific prerequisites.

How we approach the work

Experienced users need to learn delegation, not just prompting. We introduce Cowork through a small portfolio of bounded tasks, with attention to authority, review effort, consumption and the ability to intervene.

  1. Choose tasks that can be supervised

We begin with activities whose inputs and expected outputs can be inspected, such as preparing a working pack from approved material. The user states permitted sources, allowed actions, exclusions and completion criteria. High-consequence actions remain outside the initial scope unless separately assessed.

    What you receive

A super-user task portfolio and explicit delegation boundaries.

  2. Validate access, tools and spending

The platform owner checks who can use the service, which models and plugins are permitted and how consumption is governed. We review existing permissions before adding tools. Access, discoverability and a budget limit are tested as separate questions, including how pilot access is withdrawn.

    What you receive

A tenant readiness record and a controlled pilot group.

  3. Practise review and intervention

Participants inspect the proposed work, challenge unsupported assumptions and decide where approval is needed. Exercises include an unexpected source, an unsuitable action and an incomplete result. The user must be able to explain what happened and when to stop or ask for help.

    What you receive

Observed task exercises and individual coaching priorities.

  4. Evaluate the whole delegated task

We compare useful completion, checking effort, corrections, exceptions and consumption with the previous method. Repeated or unattended work is a separate decision with its own review. The handover identifies who handles incidents, changed features and continued access.

    What you receive

A scale, adapt or stop decision supported by task records.

The guidance behind the approach

Check the actual administration model

Microsoft’s current Cowork guidance describes usage-based billing and access through spending policies. It also distinguishes access from model settings and discovery. We validate the tenant configuration instead of relying on older preview-era controls.

Illustrative example

Example: preparing a review pack

A user delegates assembly of a review pack from approved documents. Creating a draft in a working area is permitted; emailing it to a customer is not part of the task. The user checks coverage and factual accuracy before deciding what to share. The learning exercise deliberately includes an irrelevant document and a missing source.

What we need to get started

  • Experienced participants and their task owners
  • A platform administrator and a consumption budget owner
  • Approved material, excluded actions and an escalation contact

Questions before you begin

Is Cowork just another name for a Copilot Studio agent?

No. We position Cowork here as delegated work for an experienced user. A shared agent with a defined audience and service lifecycle is assessed through the Copilot Studio or engineering module.

Can users leave recurring tasks running without review?

We do not treat an interactive pilot as approval for unattended work. The owner must agree the trigger, authorised actions, approval behaviour, exception handling and a way to stop the task before that scope is introduced.

The decision at the end

Users demonstrate sound delegation and intervention in realistic scenarios; the owner accepts the operating boundary.

How progress is judged

Compare completed useful tasks, review effort, exceptions and quality against the existing method.

Scope boundary

Cowork availability and individual features differ by account, tenant and release channel. Preview capabilities remain separate from the baseline programme; licensing, model and processing terms are confirmed before use.
